Portugal Day
The Portuguese community in Toronto has been celebrating their shared heritage with an annual parade since 1966 and more recently with a Festa. These annual events commemorate the first wave of immigrants that arrived in Toronto from 1953 to 1955 and highlight the regional folk costumes, music, dance and, of course, the food of their ancestral homeland. This living heritage is celebrated with great pride and continues to shape the identity of the generations that have followed the pioneering families. The renowned Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa once wrote, "Everything in life, what I see, experience, and think, ends up turning into me." [Images taken from 2014 - 2024]
